Roundup 8/21
SAINTS LOSE LT
Saints All-Pro LT Jamaal Brown will go under the knife tomorrow in order to repair a sports hernia. Brown sought additional testing for the pain in his upper groin area, that had him on and off the practice field for weeks. The final blow came during a scrimmage with the Houston Texans today when Brown was overcome with pain and felt like he had been shot during a pretty basic pass blocking play. The hope is to get him back for the start of the regular season, but I doubt that will happen. Sports hernia's are difficult to recover from fully right away and he will need awhile to get back up to speed. Expect Drew Brees' blindside to be a swinging gate until around week 3 when Brown comes back, hopefully healthy.
DERAILED
Those of you holding out hope for former Michigan star RB Mike Hart can give it up now. Hart reinjured himself in Thursday's preseason game, this time suffering a sprained ankle. Hart is coming back from major ACL reconstruction and has not ran well in camp this summer. This latest injury could put him in danger of starting on the PUP or being placed on IR which would end his season.
A STARTER IS NAMED
Though no official word has leaked out yet, the 49ers have told QB Shaun Hill that he will be their starter in week 1 of the regular season. Head coach Mike Singletary told Hill that he will be evaluated after every performance and that he has earned the starting nod with a very solid camp. Singletary went on to say that nothing is promised and that Hill will have to earn his job each and every week.
