Seahawks Sign Edgerrin James
The Seahawks and free agent Edgerrin James have agreed on a one year $2 million contract. Edge will be brought in to compete with Julius Jones and T.J. Duckett possibly for a starting position. Both Jones and Duckett have struggled at times this preseason so it is no surprise that the team is bringing in another RB.
While this is a good move for the Seahawks, I don't see much fantasy upside for Edgerrin James here. The Seahawks offensive line is in ruins right now with Walter Jones out after another knee surgery, Chris Spencer being diagnosed with a torn thigh muscle and Ray Willis having knee trouble. Also, James does not possess the lateral quickness necessary to really succeed in a zone blocking scheme such as the Seahawks play. James is a solid RB who can break a few tackles and get to the second level on occasion but he doesn't have the speed anymore to break the long runs even if he was given room to do so. He's an above average pass catcher though and should catch a bunch of passes which gives him a bit of an upgrade in PPR leagues.
