Roundup 8/26
JETS NAME STARTER
Head coach Rex Ryan has informed all three Jets QB's that Mark Sanchez will be the starting QB in week 1. This is hardly a surprise as Sanchez was drafted to be the starter, the team brought no veterans in to compete for the job and Sanchez has greatly outperformed Kellen Clemens during camp this summer. Look for the Jets to eventually acquire a WR for Sanchez to throw to before the start of the regular season.
BILLS GET GOOD NEWS
Preliminary tests on Fred Jackson's injured thumb/wrist have come back negative for a break or torn tendon. The injury has been diagnosed as a sprain and he is at this point questionable for the opening week of the season. Either way, Dominic Rhodes figures to be involved more so in the offense in the first couple weeks of the season.
INJURY NEWS
Shaun Hill has left 49ers practice today due to lower back spasms. He didn't get hit or seem to do anything to directly affect his back especially since he came out after just one play of today's practice. This is a situation to watch as backup QB Alex Smith is out for awhile with a thumb injury so Nate Davis and Damon Huard will likely be the only QB's to man the ship on in their next preseason game on Saturday.
Broncos backup QB Chris Simms is expected to miss at least a month after going down with a high ankle sprain on Tuesday. This kid just cannot stay healthy it seems! The Broncos signed journeyman Ingle Martin IV to take snaps as the #3 QB in Denver until Simms comes back.
TRADE RUMORS
The Jacksonville Jaguars are sniffing around Kansas City about the availability of third string QB Tyler Thigpen. Thigpen would be a perfect fit in Jacksonville as they run a similar offense to which the Chiefs wound up playing in last year when Thigpen took over. The Jags are in pursuit of a QB in a big way as their faith in Todd Bouman has faded tremendously.
