Hakeem Nicks Misses Practice

Giants first round pick Hakeem Nicks missed the last two practice sessions with a strained right hamstring. It is not considered serious but missing time during camp is a great way to get yourself lost in a crowded WR shuffle. The Giants have not been impressed with any of their in house candidates to fill the shoes of Plaxico Burress. Each receiver brings an element or two to the table, but none have come close so far to presenting the total package.

The key element here will be who franchise QB Eli Manning feels most comfortable with. Steve Smith is the guy who will get the most receptions on the season but he is not a big downfield threat or a red zone target. Therefore, Domenik Hixon, Nicks, Mario Manningham and Sinorice Moss all have a chance to be fantasy producers this season. Yet, none of them have hit the ground running thus far.

I still am a fan of Derek Hagan. He is not getting any time whatsoever in camp and thus I doubt he will even make the team if this keeps up. But, if Nicks and/or others continue to miss time or underperform, Hagan could get a shot and make a late run at a roster spot.
